As you drive through Nkwashi, you will hear the unmistakable sound of a grinder. The longer you stay here you’ll come to recognise this as the sound of Mr. Kingsley Kapobe at work.
This soft spoken artist started his journey working with ceramics in 1996 and has since evolved into a painter and a sculptor, working with wood and stone.
As you approach the Nkwashi gate you’re greeted by two flat stone individuals that were crafted by Mr. Kingsley.
Inspired largely by the offering of nature and the human form, it comes as no surprise that his art would find it’s home in such a beautiful spot. Whilst he works on other installations, when you take a walk at the park you will find ‘The acrobat’ sitting comfortable facing the water — a great addition to the tranquil surroundings.
He’s still working on so much more for AIR2 and we’re excited to see the end result. Here’s a sneak peak…
