The Chena Artists In Residence (Chena AIR) Program in this new year continues under the theme “African Renaissance.”
We’re looking not only at using art to overcome the current challenges confronting the continent to achieve cultural, scientific, and economic renewal, but to continue finding new expressions of our artistic passions.
As we partner with Nkwashi in their mandate to ‘build a city outside the city,’ we are striving to bring a little more into our art and leave our mark and expression on the African continent at large.
In this new wave of artistic expression it is imperative not only to look at where we’re going but also how far we have come as a continent. We have a new crop of artisans fulfilling their self expressions in order to do more than just ‘create’ as is the mandate of any artist.
“IF YOU KNOW THE BEGINNING WELL, THE END WILL NOT TROUBLE YOU.” — A WOLOF PROVERB
Each art piece to be installed here has a story and represents not only the keen craftsmanship of it’s creator but also a key reminder for introspection and bears a torch of inspiration for anyone who sets their eyes upon it.
These pieces are a symbol of the African dream and the African hope for the future we shall know. It begins now, with the present as we live it — as we create it.
We can’t wait for you to see the full pieces soon! Be sure to keep following our socials for constant updates.
