Lantern Holder at the Park at Nkwashi

As you visit the gated community which is situated approximately 40km from the heart of Lusaka district, do not forget to see the Lantern Holders. Brownish in appearance and located at the beginning and end of the walk way to the water front at the park at Nkwashi, they symbolize, brilliance, transcendence and guiding light. In addition, they symbolize the inward light that guides the soul through periods of darkness with the promise of a new day. What a fitting symbol this is for Nkwashi, being a city headed for greatness!

Lantern Holders at the end of the walkway at the park at Nkwashi

Interestingly, the two sets of lantern holders remind us of our capability to find our means in the world and express to our native inner strength. This is so because light helps to lead the way forward, towards the future and pushes aside the surrounding darkness. In context, these skillfully made artworks are a fitting symbol of the ever-brightening future of Nkwashi. As a community which is strong enough to overcome obstacles in its way.

To add more cream to the already delicious cake, you may be glad to note that the lantern holders’ symbolism is further attributed to love, wisdom and illumination. Next time you visit Nkwashi, don’t forget to look out for the lantern holders as you go to the waterfront via the walkway at the park!
